Iggy Pop has teamed up with Kill Bill guitar hero Hotei for a new single Walking Through The Night.

A dark tale of a stroll through the seamier side of Tokyo, it’s the latest cut from Hotei’s first international album Strangers, out now on Spinefarm Records.

Iggy, who also worked with the Japanese on How The Cookie Crumbles, says the song is about ‘feeling alone, sexually vulnerable and a little bit angry ….and a little bit horny’ on a brightly-lit Shinjuku street.

He goes on to explain how he was attracted to Hotei’s sense of space and drama in an interview clip here

For his part, Hotei described the session with Pop as ‘amongst the most creative and productive time I had in my 35-year career’.

A superstar in his homeland, Tomoyasu Hotei is best known in the west for his song Battle Without Honor Or Humanity from the soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill.

Besides Iggy, Strangers features contributions from Rammstein’s Richard Z. KruspeBullet For My Valentine’s Matt TuckNoko from UK electronic pioneers Apollo 440, and Texan singer Shea Sege.

Pop meanwhile is still basking in the success of his Josh Homme collaboration Post Pop Depression reviewed by An Ideal For Living here.

Gimme Danger, a Jim Jarmusch documentary chronicling the story of Iggy and The Stooges is currently on release in UK cinemas. Watch the trailer on this link
